Ketamine-Assisted Psychotherapy (KAP) involved the use of low-dose ketamine- a legal, FDA-approved medication with growing support in the treatment of depression, PTSD, anxiety, and emotion regulation- in a therapeutic setting, under the guidance and support of a trained mental health practitioner.
Ketamine has been shown to boost the neuroplasticity of the brain and shift mental states which is SO helpful when it feels like talk therapy hasn't been enough.
Here's what you can expect:
1. Psychiatric Evaluation and Prescription and Preparation
Before beginning KAP, you'll meet with a licensed prescriber through Journey Clinical for a medical consultation. If KAP is a good fit, the prescriber will submit a prescription. A bonus is that Journey Clinical can also manage all other psychiatric medication if you want the benefit of having it in one place!
You and I will then meet to talk more about what the session will look like, what you can expect, and set therapeutic goals for treatment.
2. Ketamine-Assisted Session (3 Hours)
You will bring your medication to our office for your scheduled session. In a calm and private setting, you will take the medication and remain full supported for the duration of your experience.
3. Integration
We will schedule a session about a week later to follow up on your experience, explore what surfaced, and begin integrating insights in to our ongoing therapeutic work. This session is just as vital as the medication session. This is where you can find meaning from the experience and apply it to your daily life.
KAP has shown to be particularly helpful for those experiencing the following:
